Polish Jazz Award 2009: Pianist Of The Year & Album Of The Year In Poland, the younger generation of jazz musicians such as Leszek Mozdzer and Marcin Wasilewski are celebrated like pop stars, and have made themselves well known outside of Poland. 25 year old pianist Paweł Kaczmarczyk is on the right path to follow them - ever since his “Live” album with the Kaczmarczyk/Baranski/Dobrowolski Trio was chosen as the “Album of the Year” in the 2005 Polish Public Television Channel 2 awards, he has been considered a major force in polish jazz music. In the same year he won the MELOMANI jazz society's major prize, Poland's so-called “Jazz Oscar”. Since then the readers of Poland's prestigious Jazz Forum magazine have regularly voted him “most promising” musician in the publication's yearly poll, and in 2007, the magazine named Audiofeeling, Kaczmarczyk's first album as leader “Album of the Year”. With his debut release as an ACT recording artist, Complexity In Simplicity, Paweł Kaczmarczyk jumped onto the international stage, he played London Jazzfestival and Dortmunder Jazztage in 2009. Paweł Kaczmarczyk achieved the most important Polish Jazz Awards! The magazine Jazz Forum conducts a yearly readers' poll known as "Jazz Top 2009" awards, which is a ranking of Poland's jazz musicians and, in a sense, an overview of the country's jazz scene. Earlier this year, the poll results for 2009 were published and Album of The Year got Paweł Kaczmarczyk Audiofeeling Band with “Complexity in Simplicity” record. What seems most significant is Paweł Kaczmarczyk's victory as a Pianist of The Year breaking many years' rule of Leszek Mozdzer in this speciality. Paweł placed highly in the Musician of The Year and Composer of The Year category (2nd, behind Tomasz Stanko), and his band took second place as an Acoustic Band (behind Marcin Wasilewski Trio). |
