LAL - A unique new sound of soulful electronics with South Asian grooves
LAL's music is the outcome of a deep and soulful collaboration between vocalist Rosina Kazi and Nick Murray (a.k.a. "Murr"), whose carefully crafted beats, bass and samples flow with his partner's sweet velvet voice in an impeccable harmony on every one of their tracks. Blending South Asian and West Indian influences with electronic, down tempo hip hop, loops, beats and baselines, LAL have been breaking new ground and created their unique style of music. They are giants of the Toronto underground music scene and have definitely created a spot for themselves in Canada and Worldwide. Having opened for acts such as Nelly Furtado, Warsawpack, Roy Ayers, and State of Bengal proves LAL's versatility and level of respect as artists. Their recent album "Warm Belly High Power" has received critical acclaim and gained fans worldwide.
"Warm Belly High Power" has been called "a wonderfully eclectic lush album", by Raf Katigbak (Montreal Mirror) and David Dacks (Exclaim Magazine) described this album as "a sublime, genre-confounding statement, featuring inventive beats, deft live instrumentation and topical lyrics".
"This is supposed to be big, sounding like a 2005 version of Massive Attack, but they could not sound like that today, simply because they lost the plot... LAL has a beautiful voice, beats are very well done, music is the perfect setting for LALs voice again. An album that makes sense all over", says Michael Ruetten (Soulpatrol/Compost). |
