Celso Duarte

Well-know in world-music circles as a virtuoso of the Mexican and Paraguayan harps, Celso Duarte has been impressing audiences around the world since very early age. For the past several years, Celso has been key member of Lila Downs's band La Misteriosa on violin, guitar, jarana, charango and harp. He is currently collaborating with the Carnegie Hall in New York.

Born in Paraguay and reared in Mexico, Celso comes from a rich musical tradition. When he was very young, he began harp and Latin-American music studies with his father, a world-renowned Paraguayan harpist, and his mother, a Mexican singer and pianist.

Celso Duarte's concert schedule has included performances at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and in concert venues and festivals around the world. He also shared the stage with Wynton Marsalis, Mercedes Sosa, Martirio, Susana Baca, Mariza, Joe Vasconcellos, Mono Blanco, Julieta Venegas, and Celso Piña, among others. His own touring group, the Celso Duarte Ensemble comprises great traditional, classical, and jazz musicians, and its beauty lies in the execution of traditional music from baroque and African roots, and experimentation of fusion between jarocho rhythms and jazz.
